At the YMCA, youth sports are about more than winning — they’re about learning, growing, and belonging. Through age-appropriate instruction and positive coaching, we help young athletes develop coordination, confidence, and a lifelong love for being active.

Youth Sports at the YMCA of East Tennessee

Every program at the Y teaches more than just the fundamentals of the sport — we teach teamwork, leadership, and the values of respect and perseverance. Kids learn what it means to be part of a team while building friendships that last.

Homeschool PE

Cansler Y / Pilot Y / Tennova Y / Davis Y:

  • Monthly classes for homeschool children ages 5-12 years old with one hour of PE curriculum led by a Y Coach and one hour of free swim. Register through the Y.

Basketball

Cansler Y:

  • Teams of Tomorrow: TOT Basketball
    • Ball handling, academic enrichment, and fun for preschoolers 3-5 years old. Register at https://teamsoftomorrow.com/

Pilot:

  • Kinder Hoops Basketball
    • A winter co-ed basketball league for preschool and early elementary children ages 4-6. Register through the Y.
  • Seasonal Basketball Clinics:
    • Children will work on ball handling skills, offense, defense and teamwork as well as skills to improve their overall athletic performance. For ages 5-11 (age groups will be split). Register through the Y.
  • Basketball Basics Camp for ages 8-11.

Tennova Y:

  • Seasonal Basketball Clinics for Youth:
    • Skill development, ball handling and shooting, defensive tactics, and high-quality instruction. Register through the Y.

Soccer

Davis Y:

  • All Star Soccer with Stretch N Grow
    • An outdoor, code seasonal soccer league for ages 3-6; register through the Y.

Gymnastics & Dance

Cansler Y:

  • Tumble Bugs: A monthly class for ages 3-5 that teaches basic gymnastic and tumbling skills like log rolls, pressing up to bridge, and more. Register through the Y.

Tennova Y:

  • Creative Movement Ages 3-5: A monthly class for ages 3-5 that teaches basic dance skills, rhythm and movement. Register through the Y.
  • Creative Movement Ages 6-9: A monthly class for ages 6-9 that teaches hip-hop/jazz inspired dance basics including warm-ups, learning new steps, and beginner combinations. Register through the Y.
  • Creative Movement Ages 10-12: A monthly class for ages 10-12 that teaches hip-hop/jazz inspired dance basics including warm-ups, learning new steps, and beginner combinations. Register through the Y.
  • Special dance and theater mini-camps, typically 2-3 days in length, offered over holiday breaks or summer.

Davis Y:

  • Stretch N Grow Gymnastics: Ongoing classes for ages 2.5-6 years old or 6-10 years old focusing on gymnastics basics. Register at https://sng-easttn.com/.
  • Stretch N Grow Ballet: Ballet Basics for ages 3-5 or 6-10 offered January-May. Register at https://sng-easttn.com/.
  • Stretch N Grow Hip Hop: Hip-Hop Basics for ages 3-5 or 6-10 offered June-August. Register at https://sng-easttn.com/.

 

Martial Arts

Cansler Y / Pilot Y / Tennova Y:

  • Ongoing Martial Arts classes for all ages offered year-round by Grand Master Eun and the team at TTJC (Tennessee Taekwondo Judo College). Register at defenseking.com.

Davis Y:

  • Ongoing Karate, Kobudo, Self Defense, and Samurai Sword classes for all ages offered by Samurai Dragons. Register at samuraidragons.com.

Other Sports

All Star Sports (Davis Y)

  • All Start Sports: Ongoing classes for ages 3-6 to expose kids to a range of sports like baseball, basketball, soccer, football, field hockey, and track and field. Register https://sng-easttn.com/.

Sports & Splash (Pilot Y & Cansler Y)

  • Sports & Splash: Monthly summer program for kids who have completed K-5th grade. One hour of coach-led games and sports in the basketball gym followed by one hour of free swim and pool play.  Pack a swimsuit and towel or wear it under your gym clothes! Register through the Y.

Programs are available for ages 3–14, depending on the sport. Age divisions are structured to ensure fair play and developmentally appropriate instruction.

Basic athletic clothing and non-marking shoes are required. Any additional equipment (like soccer balls or shin guards) will be specified at registration.
